The Sweetness of Water

 

The UIAD Prize for Literature has been awarded to Nathan Harris for his debut novel The Sweetness of Water.

The story takes place in the fictional town of Old Ox, Georgia, during the final period of the Civil War. It follows two black brothers, freed from slavery by the Emancipation Proclamation, as they try to make money for their trek north to reunite with their mother.

The novel explores a society that is violent and racist yet not without hope: amid grief and chaos there emerges restoration and...love.

English Open Days success

 Our English Open Days have been a great success!

And today is the last day, so you still have time to tell your friends.

And don't forget, there is a conference on Shakespeare this evening, at 5 pm, in Room G4 at the Gambetta Annexe, 6bis boulevard Gambetta.

English Open Days

Please tell all your friends about our English Open Days which will take place on Tuesday 25th April, Wednesday 26th April and Thursday 27th April.

They will be very welcome to come and talk with us and learn about the different English activities they can sign up for. 

They can even visit one of our classes to see us in action!

On the final day, there will be a conference on William Shakespeare.

River to the Heart continued...

UIAD English teacher, Rosana Delon, and her students organised a fundraising event for the writer and film maker Eddy L. Harris.

The event took place on 5th April in Saint-Martin-d'Uriage and it was a great success!

Captain Hook's Revenge

Don't miss the latest show from Wing It Productions!

Captain Hook's Revenge is a musical comedy performed by young English speakers (middle and high-school students here in Grenoble).

River to the Heart

My students and I got acquainted with Eddy L. Harris, an American writer and film maker, during his conference at the UIAD in November 2022.

He came to two of our classes to talk about his views on the United States and his travels along the Mississippi (book: Mississippi Solo). He also talked about his documentary River to the Heart which was awarded 'Best Documentary' in the Ozark Foothills FilmFest 

This friendship has inspired my students to create a fundraising event to help him finance this film.

Come and join us in this effort on 5th April at the Centre Culturel in Saint-Martin-d'Uriage.

All proceeds from this event will help Eddy pay for the documentary.
